Move-Out Information

May Move-Out 2024

Residence Halls close on Saturday, May 4 at 12pm. 

All residents must vacate their housing 24 hours after their last final or by the date/time above, whichever occurs first.  Graduating seniors have an extended check-out automatically; they should move-out by Sun. May 5, 5pm. All students must return their room to move-in condition, return their keys, and check-out following the steps below. Late stay requests are due by Mon. April 29, 5pm and may be submitted via our online form.

Step 1: Return Your Room to Move-In Condition

  • Take all trash and recycling to dumpsters
  •  Remove all personal belongings
  • Ensure all University furniture is in your room and in good working order
  • Defrost and Clean your micro-fridge and unplug
    • Clean the inside of your microwave to move-in condition. Make sure the microwave plate is inside and in working order
    • Clean and dry the inside of your refrigerator/freezer
    • Leave doors to fridge/freezer OPEN
  • Clean Your Suite and Room
    • Sweep and mop/clean floors in all rooms
    • Clean all surfaces including your desk, chairs, dressers, bathroom surfaces
    • Clear out and clean all drawers
    • Clean walls and make sure all tape and other items are removed and walls are in good condition
  • Ensure your windows and closed and locked
  • Check your mailbox and take all mail out

Step 2: Return Your Keys and Check-Out
Check-out and return your keys via Express Check-Out or Staff Check-Out

  • Express Check-Out Process (all students default to this process unless they sign-up for staff check-out)
    • Make sure your room is clean, in working order, and returned to Move-In Condition (following Step 1)
    • Put your room and mailbox keys in your envelope, complete all areas of the envelope, sign and seal
    • Return the sealed envelope to your building office (slide under the door)
    • After your departure, your room will be inspected. Fines will be issued if your room is not returned to move-in condition, for improper check-out, or if issues are found.

  • Staff Check-Out Process
    • Email your RD/ARD by Mon. April 29, 5pm to arrange a Check-Out appointment
    • Room must be 100% moved-out, clean, and ready for an inspection at this appointment by completing all items in Step 1
    • At your appointment, staff will collect keys, ensure room is returned to move-in condition, and review the RCR. fines will be issued for all issues not corrected or for improper check-out.

Airport Shuttle Schedule

Residence Life offers shuttle service to the Beckley Airport and Prince Amtrak Station on demand May 2 through May 4 and shuttles to the Charleston Yaeger Airport at the below dates and times. To request a shuttle, please complete our online form by Mon. April 29, 5pm.
