Campus Carry & Storage Info

Campus Carry and Gun Storage Information

Starting on July 1 2024, individuals with a valid license to carry a concealed deadly weapon will be able to carry a concealed weapon into common spaces in the residence halls, like lobbies. Weapons are not permitted in residence hall rooms.

West Virginia University Institute of Technology students with a valid license to carry a concealed deadly weapon are eligible to reserve space in a secure gun locker to house their pistol or revolver, as required by the Campus Self Defense Act. The available gun locker will be in University Hall.

Students with a housing assignment can review procedures and reserve a gun locker at any time by visiting https://myhousing.wvu.edu and following the Campus Carry link in the menu at the top. Once a request is submitted, Residence Life staff will be in touch about an assigned locker, the cost, and access.

The WVU Tech Counseling Center and WVU Tech Police offer a variety of safety-related resources and information. For more information on the West Virginia campus carry law and how WVU Tech will implement and enforce the law, visit https://safety.wvu.edu/campus-carry. If you have additional questions, they can be sent to safety@mail.wvu.edu
