Break Housing

Thanksgiving Break Information

All residence halls close over Thanksgiving Break. Students must vacate their housing assignment by noon on Sat. Nov. 20. Halls reopen at 8am on Sun. Nov. 28. Before leaving for break, students must complete the break checklist posted on their doors. All rooms will be entered for health and safety checks and to ensure the checklist has been completed; fines will be issued for noncompliance. 

Break Housing Available

Students unable to travel elsewhere over break may apply to stay in their housing assignment. The cost is $25 per night. Please note dining services are unavailable over this break.  Students interested in break housing should complete the online application by 5pm Fri. Nov. 12. Athletes staying with their team do not need to complete an application. Late applications may not be accepted, and if accepted, will incur a $25 late application fee.

Thanksgiving Break Checklist

  • Remove all perishable food items
  • Take all trash and recycling to dumpsters
  • Shut/lock windows and close blinds
  • Unplug all electric items except your microfridge
  • University Hall: Set Heat to 66 degrees, auto fan
  • Hogan Hall: Turn AC/Heat unit to auto fan, temperature set to medium
  • Sign the checklist on your door
  • Lock your door, take your keys and ID with you
Airport and Train Station Shuttles
University shuttles to and from the Charleston Yeager airport are available at the below days and times. Shuttles to the Prince train station and Beckley airport are also available. To register for shuttle service, complete our online shuttle request form by 5pm Fri. Nov. 12. 

Departing Shuttles (CRW airport)
  • Thurs. Nov. 18: 3pm
  • Fri. Nov. 19: 8am, 3pm
  • Sat. Nov 20: 8am, 12pm
Returning Shuttles (CRW airport)
  • Sun. Nov. 28: 12pm, 6pm, 11pm

Winter Break Information

All residence halls close over Winter Break. Students must vacate their housing assignment 24 hours after their last final or by  noon on Sat. Dec. 18 (whichever occurs first). Halls reopen at 8am on Sun. Jan. 9. In general, break housing is not available over Winter Break. In extraordinary cases, a student may petition to stay over break by contacting daniel.sepion@mail.wvu.edu

Before leaving for break, students must complete the break checklist posted on their doors. All rooms will be entered for health and safety checks, to ensure the checklist has been completed, and to complete routine maintenance; fines will be issued for noncompliance. 

Winter Break Checklist

  • Remove all perishable food items

  • Clean your room
  • Shut/lock windows and close blinds
  • Unplug all electric items (including your microfridge); defrost microfridge and leave door open
  • University Hall: Set Heat to 66 degrees, auto fan

  • Sign the checklist on your door
  • Lock your door, take your keys and ID with you
Not Returning Spring Semester?
If you are not returning to housing Spring Semester, notify Residence Life immediately by contacting your RD/ARD or emailing daniel.sepion@mail.wvu.edu. You will need to take the additional steps to move-out:
  • Clean your room and your furniture; you must return your portion of your room to move-in condition
  • Sign-up for a check-out time with your RD or ARD -- they will arrange this once you notify us you are not returning
  • Check your mailbox and get all of your mail
  • Return your two keys to Residence Life
